Song of 2010

8 Jan

Amongst the Sleeping Son boys, there is a constant struggle in determining the ‘Best Song’ of any given year. With submissions being placed after every great new album release.

Having comparable, but varying musical tastes; however, makes settling on one song a battle.

If you have been following blogs in 2010, you will have heard of Beach House. I passed up on their album ‘Teen Dream’ for a while, either out of pure stupidity, or blinded ignorance – and that was a mistake. For the greater part of 2010 (from its release to January 1st, 2011) Foals ‘Spanish Sahara’ had solidified its spot as my number 1. And although it still draws awe from me, Beach House’s ‘Used to Be’ is the best song from 2010.

The way the song slowly creeps up on you, with a focal melody so easy and basic – you feel like you can actually sing along, and do it well. There is nothing fancy about anything, and that’s what makes recognition of its beauty so effortless.

So Mike, Dad, here is my song of 2010. If you haven’t heard it already:
