2013: A Round Up of Things To Come

24 Jan

To be honest, I made a ‘best of’ list for 2012 – but I didn’t release it (clearly). The reason being that I have to compete with all of these blogs, and then some. It’s daunting, and it’s frustrating, but it’s also the reality of running a music blog in today’s culture. In the end, there is nothing I could have said that hadn’t already been said by another blog. And so I said nothing at all (for almost 3 months).

I now extend an olive branch.

This post contains everything of importance that has me excited for 2013 – as a sort of apology/consolation prize for the lack of content you have been receiving on this blog as of late.

Alt-J

Never posted about these guys, but they were easily the best album of 2012… If you haven’t already heard of them, I envy your ignorance.

Local Natives

Their new album Hummingbird releases January 29th, and you can stream it now here:

We’ve heard two songs, Inhaler and My Number, from their new album Holy Fire which releases on February 11th.

Vampire Weekend

LP3 still doesn’t have a name, but it has a release date: May 6. More of nothing here.

Youth Lagoon

Youth Lagoon, is set to release a follow up to 2011’s The Year of Hibernation. It’s titled Wondrous Bughouse, and is out on March 5. Listen to the first single Dropla below.

Wondrous Bughouse:

04 The Bath

Everything Everything

Their new record Arc takes the idiosyncrasy of their debut Man Alive, and molds it into much more accessible pop (which I’m always a fan of).

[…] This one’s pretty special, as Phoenix has been a particular enigma of desire in the past year or so (with personal speculation/confusion here and here). […]
