2013: A Round Up of Things To Come

24 Jan

To be honest, I made a ‘best of’ list for 2012 – but I didn’t release it (clearly). The reason being that I have to compete with all of these blogs, and then some. It’s daunting, and it’s frustrating, but it’s also the reality of running a music blog in today’s culture. In the end, there is nothing I could have said that hadn’t already been said by another blog. And so I said nothing at all (for almost 3 months).

I now extend an olive branch.

This post contains everything of importance that has me excited for 2013 – as a sort of apology/consolation prize for the lack of content you have been receiving on this blog as of late.

Alt-J

Never posted about these guys, but they were easily the best album of 2012… If you haven’t already heard of them, I envy your ignorance.

Their new record Arc takes the idiosyncrasy of their debut Man Alive, and molds it into much more accessible pop (which I’m always a fan of).

New Years, Frosty Beers

27 Dec

New Years seems to embody the very exhibition of false spectacle. It is meant to be an occasion of pure fulfillment; a moment of pure rejoice – yet it is always a function of vacancy and disappointment.

It seems that when you build something up, in an attempt to solidify its worth, you just deprive that something of its true articulation of meaning. New years is no exception; as it never seems to fulfill you of your expectations.

It is presented as a momentous change in both the character of the world and character of you – when in reality, it is no different from the change of the day before. I would love to hear otherwise, but I don’t think I will… So set your expectations low and set your hopes high, for a New Years worth remembering.

This music isn’t anything new – but hopefully it is something exciting. Here are a few gems that will be played for my new years ball drop.

Hopefully you can find something of worth.
