The Shape of Things to Come

19 Jul

Earlier this year I posted a list of my most anticipated albums, with blind ambition and childlike yearning. I was basing assumption on hope.

As it turns out, that list is proving true. Beach House, Keane, and Frank Ocean have all already released new albums (all of which meet and exceed expectation). Passion Pit’s ‘Gossamer’ drops next week. The XX, who were not on the list, but probably should have been, released their new single with news of an upcoming album called ‘Coexist’.

Mumford and Sons recently announced they would be releasing ‘Babel’ on September 25. Two Door Cinema Club will be releasing their follow up to Tourist History, ‘Beacon’, September 3rd.

And it seems Phoenix are still stuck in a studio somewhere. It’s all very exciting… (below is a full list of album release dates).

To tide over anticipation, here are two new tracks from a collaboration between Pnau and Elton John. It’s pretty special.

Finally. Here is ‘Angels’, the new single from The XX. Simple, sweet.

Coexist is out September 11.

(Don’t) Believe the Hype

14 May

I wrote about Zulu Winter as a Hype 2012 band back in January – and it seems they’ve lived up to the title. Zulu Winter’s debut album ‘Language’ released today, and you can stream it all live here. It’s good.

Sunopsis: Foals meets Young the Giant through a kaleidoscope.

Zulu Winter – Key To My Heart:

Zulu Winter – We Should Be Swimming:

Zulu Winter – Silver Tongue:

I’ve been really wanting to share this – and now I have the songs to support.

Sunopsis: The Shins meets Tahiti 80. Some really quirky pop.

I listed Miniature Tigers as a 2012 Hype Band, and they’ve impressed. Definite end of the year candidate.

Miniature Tigers – Boomerang:

The Hype 2012

14 Jan

I liked my ‘Hype of 2011’ category last year – with bands like Youth Lagoon and The New Division turning into big favorites. So to continue in that direction here is (some of) The Hype of 2012:

Miniature Tigers – Boomerang:

Dry The River – No Rest:

Lana Del Rey – National Anthem:

Hospitality – Betty Wang:

Zulu Winter – We Should Be Swimming:

Atlas Genius – Trojans:

Best of 2011 albums still being finalized… sorry!
