With a feature on Kitsune’s newest compilation album (which has featured the likes of Two Door Cinema Club, Bloc Party, Friendly Fires and Foals) Go Wolf deserves our attention. If “buzzworthy” and “breakthrough act” are still relevant measures, the group fits the part, succeeding at making indie disco pop that is increasingly being played out and under-executed. In other words, I’m excited to see where they go next, but this is enough for now.
I’m going to start recycling some of my older posts on Fridays. There are a lot of amazing artists out there who get tucked away and overlooked, and sometimes if they release something buzz-worthy it’s only in the spotlight for a few weeks. These posts will attempt to revisit some of those bands.
This is somewhat of a family effort… Big bro sometimes strikes gold with his finds (when he’s not listening to Rihanna or Ke$ha) – and so Good Old War gets chalked up as a win from him. Some really simple acoustic chantey’s that go perfect with a hot choco in your hand, a fire at your back, and a view of snow fall in front.
Dad has been pretty useless lately (sorry pops). It seems he either goes on folk focused tangents, or sporadic genre detours. That being said he is usually the man behind the biggest bands I listen to year in and year out – so the digressions obviously serve a greater whole.

Shazam (the app) has held a funny place in my life. For the most part I tag a song and never go back to listen again. Often I’m just checking if my music knowledge is as good as I think it is. Which can be disappointing when I find out a Said The Whale song is not new Spoon material.
Other times I’m just checking who’s responsible for the fat groove I’m experiencing, convincing myself I will go out and buy it when I get a chance. But I never do.
What this has led to, however, is a certain excitement when opening the app and going through old tags. Every once in a while I rediscover something that really deserved my attention. Today that was the band Kid Astray. Below is a great song with some better dancing, so enjoy. Also, for good measure, a Huey Lewis song that I tagged a year ago (re: fat groove).
